What is WBO Meaning?

WBO: World Boxing Organization

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) is one of the four major sanctioning bodies in professional boxing, along with the World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Association (WBA), and the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

The WBO was founded in 1988 by a group of boxing promoters, managers, and fighters who were dissatisfied with the existing sanctioning bodies. The WBO's mission is to provide a fair and impartial governing body for professional boxing, and to promote the sport worldwide.

The WBO's Belt System

The WBO has a belt system similar to the other major sanctioning bodies. The WBO's world champion is awarded a black belt with a gold-plated center disc. The belt is inscribed with the WBO's logo and the champion's name and weight class.

The WBO also awards regional and intercontinental titles. The regional champions are awarded a black belt with a silver-plated center disc, while the intercontinental champions are awarded a black belt with a bronze-plated center disc.

The WBO's Ranking System

The WBO's ranking system is used to determine who is eligible to challenge for a WBO title. The WBO ranks boxers based on their records, their performances against other ranked boxers, and their activity level.

The WBO's ranking system is updated monthly. Boxers can move up or down in the rankings based on their performance.

The WBO's Champions

The WBO has crowned some of the biggest names in boxing history, including Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao.

The current WBO world champions include Tyson Fury (heavyweight), Canelo Alvarez (super middleweight), Terence Crawford (welterweight), and Oleksandr Usyk (cruiserweight).
